You may have noticed I haven’t posted a blog in two weeks. (Or maybe you haven’t. Which is exactly my point!) I needed a break and I took one.
I had a million-and-one things going on in my life and blogging just wasn’t going to fit.
And guess what! It all turned out okay. The world is still spinning on its axis and you and I are both still here. Imagine that. It’s a good reminder, actually.
Taking a break is highly underrated.
In truth, our plan should almost always be to run hard for a while and then to take a break. (And not to beat ourselves up about it, which is definitely the trickiest part.)
We are so incredibly hard on ourselves.
Why is it that we push ourselves so relentlessly? We lose ourselves in a chorus of shame stories – “I’m so behind” and “I’m way off track” and “I’m not where I should be” – as we slog onward, complaining about how exhausted we are and how little we’ve slept.
Enough already.
Repeat after me. It’s okay to take a break.
From the project…
From the diet…
From the laundry….
From the class…
From the morning runs
From the evening shift…
From cleaning up the mess…
From whatever it is that just doesn’t fit right now…
Life is dynamic. It’s okay to reprioritize.
It’s okay to shift your focus.
And when you do, it’s important to be gentle with yourself.
If you’re going to take a break, then savor it.
Own it.
Leverage it.
And then come back refreshed and recharged and ready to give it your all once again.
