Episode #394 – Full Transcript
I’m Cherylanne Skolnicki, and this is Brilliant Balance, the show for those of us who still dare to want it all—to have big dreams and bold ambitions. I think we deserve to have a big, full life and the freedom to enjoy it. So let’s design our next chapter together—for brilliance, not burnout. Each week, I’ll bring ideas, insight, and a fresh perspective to keep you growing into a life that feels as good as it looks. Brilliant Balance—your life, your way. Now let’s get started.
This is Episode 394 of the Brilliant Balance podcast. Today, I have five little reminders that you might need right now. So I’m so glad that you tuned in.
I’m recording this one at the end of a week, on a Friday afternoon. I don’t normally record at this time, but I was thinking about what I really felt called to share with you this week. I’m a little later than usual in getting a podcast over to the producers. And what I really wanted to do was put kind of a love note in your pocket. I wanted to speak to you if you’re not feeling like everything in your world is coming up roses right now.
Because so often on this podcast, I’m talking about ideas to help you really move forward—to help you make big, ambitious moves, to build plans for your future, to find your courage to do big things, to fulfill your potential. We’re talking a lot about achievement and accomplishment and momentum. And I know that when I’m in a season where that’s not what life feels like, listening to podcasts like that can feel a little dissonant. It can feel like, “This just isn’t for me right now.”
So if that kind of content isn’t for you right now, I want you to know that it’s perfectly normal to have chapters and episodes where things maybe even feel like they’re moving backwards—where you feel overwhelmed, where you’re not sure what it is you should do next, but you know it’s not this.
I want you to think of today’s episode as a reminder—some things you probably know deep in your heart, but maybe you’ve forgotten them, or maybe you’ve lost sight of them. That’s so easy to do. We can get into a belief that a certain chapter of our life is over and it’s never coming back—especially when we’ve had a year or a chapter with a lot of change.
So again, if you’re in that place where you’re sort of forgetting truths that you know deep in your core, then this one is for you.
Five Little Reminders We Might All Need This Week
Tuck these away. Bring them out when you need them. Maybe even bookmark this episode so you can come back to it.
1. Today Is Unprecedented
Today is a new day. In fact, every day is a new day. The next moment of your life is it—you’ve never been here before. It’s a fresh start, and you can make it into anything you want it to be.
Don’t let yesterday’s issues or stressors spill over into today—they don’t belong here. Avoid the trap of thinking, “Today is just like yesterday,” or “This week will be like last week.”
On that same note, we can’t rush tomorrow. It’ll get here when it gets here. This is the day we have to live out—and it’s completely unprecedented.
Even if you’re looking forward to something in the future, don’t forget to enjoy the ride along the way.
2. Life Brings Highs and Lows—Expect and Accept Them
If we learned one thing this year, it’s that we don’t have nearly as much control as we thought. My daughter just bought a T-shirt that says, “Relax. Nothing is under control.”
Good things happen. Bad things happen. Some chapters are awesome and we want to stay there forever. Others are tragic and we want to get through them as fast as possible.
All of our lives have both.
When we’re caught off guard by difficulty or feel frustrated we’re not always “on top,” we’re fighting gravity. Life isn’t meant to follow a perfect pattern. Ride the waves. Look for the bright spot on the horizon. Trust you’ll get there.

3. Nothing Changes If Nothing Changes
I love this one. I say it to myself, and to our community, all the time.
Yes, sometimes things change without us doing anything at all. And when they do, it’s magical. But if you’ve been riding a low for a while, remember that nothing changes if nothing changes.
You might need to shake things up to get a different result. Try something new to break the cycle, to change your state. Even something physical can trigger a shift.
The good news? You are in control of that. It’s incredibly powerful.
4. You Don’t Have to Have Everything Figured Out
Man, do I need this reminder. Life unfolds one day—one moment—at a time.
We all have moments we can look back on as life-defining: meeting our spouse, giving birth, losing a loved one. Life can change in an instant.
Trying to have it all figured out leads to overwhelm. That anxiety about “how will I ever do this?”—it’s common, but not helpful.
Take a page from scripture—Matthew 6:34: “Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.”
Do today. Let tomorrow wait.
5. Everything Is More Clear After a Good Night of Sleep
My mom used to say this, and she was right. “Everything will be more clear in the morning. Get some sleep.”
Light always follows dark. And that light brings clarity, hope, and fresh perspective.
Give yourself the gift of rest. When you wake up and take that first deep breath of the day, remember—it’s completely unprecedented once again. Anything can happen if you let it.
So there they are—five little reminders for this week:
-
Today is unprecedented.
-
Life brings highs and lows—expect and accept them.
-
Nothing changes if nothing changes.
-
You don’t have to have everything figured out.
-
Everything is more clear after a good night of sleep.
Tuck those in your pocket, my friends, and go be brilliant.
