Sometimes we have days that don’t go as planned. Sometimes we’re a little worse for the wear by the time evening arrives. I’m learning the secret to getting to the next day with my spirit intact, and it involves a little resilience and a lot of grace.
This quote hangs in my home:
Finish each day and be done with it. You have done what you could. Some blunders and absurdities no doubt crept in; forget them as soon as you can. Tomorrow is a new day; begin it well and serenely and with too high a spirit to be encumbered with your old nonsense.
– Ralph Waldo Emerson
Amen. That Emerson was one smart guy.
The time change this weekend (PSA: don’t forget to change your clocks!), has got me thinking about this concept in my own life, and in the lives of the women that I coach.
How do we react to setbacks or disappointments in our lives – do we spring forward with resilience, or fall back and feel like total failures?
Because here’s the dirty little secret no one talks about in conjunction with success – everyone has setbacks.
Trying to avoid them is useless. In fact, the bigger you play in life, the more often you’ll experience them.
In today’s episode, we’re going to talk about how to spring forward when setbacks happen in your life, and I’ll teach you a proven method to get back to your A-game quickly.
Show highlights include:
- Why “dust yourself off, keep going” is bad advice—and how to use self-care to make recovery more fun and more effective. (4:10)
- 2 questions to ask yourself to reverse any setback and turn it into an opportunity. (8:45)
- How to channel your “a-game” by changing tiny details in your life. (13:00)
- The most important decision you need to make when a setback happens to you. (19:15)
